……..was born in Ottawa, Ontario.
His interest in the art form started in his youth. It continued through his university years and during his career as a Canadian Armed Forces fighter pilot. His subsequent occupation as an airline pilot allowed him to develop his art during extensive travelling. He believes that his line of work contributed and developed his sense of observation.
The subject matter, for his paintings and sketches, came from the various countries that he visited. He commenced to collect a visual travel record of locations of special interest. Pieces of his art are in private collections throughout the world.
Richard’s main area of interest though was in the human form. Faces continued to catch his eye and had become a domain of special interest. He specialises in facial portraits using watercolors,graphite or conte (red chalk) .
To enhance his understanding of the world of portrait painting.he attended workshops with some of the best instructors available in Canada and the USA. These included Charles Reid,Tony Ryder,Garry Faigin,Karen T Taylor,Michael Britton and Al Stine.
Richard continues to paint and live in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
